Cheral “Cher Jarvis” Squyres born in Southern CA. She was greatly influenced by Father; Lee Jarvis- Insurance Salesman, (acrylic painter, and photography enthusiast ), Mother; Mary Jarvis (homemaker, seamstress, baker, and great doodler ).
Music filled the home, smells of fresh baked cookies, and pies. I have a clear memory of playing at kitchen table with clays, blocks, crayons and paper dolls while my mother baked.
Educated in the traditional way. Never really knowing where her future laid and continually drawn to art she started taking art classes in her hometown and with other inspirational artists nation wide. Started in traditional oils in a limited palette. Then went into dry pastels and found these to be very addicting. Loved the luminosity. She has always be drawn to color. She painted in watercolor but not in the traditional way. Again because of the love of color.
Never one to follow the rules, she loves to paint all types of subjects. Finding beauty and joy in everything. Painting from life is key and one of an artists best teachers. Photos are great for reference. Animals, being one of her favorite subjects are one of her favorites. If possible she prefers to use her own pictures so she has the opportunity to meet the animal. Also when the weather and allergies allow she will paint her landscapes on location. One of the first things to paint are shapes and colors. That really doesn’t take very long and later in the studio using the photos for reference.
“I love shapes, color and contrast!”
Her style would probably be characterized as traditional realism, but with a painterly flair. Leaving paint strokes, and hard edges so the viewer can get excitement from the color, shapes and contrast.
I will always strive to do better, experiment more and I love to glean new techniques from other artists I see my art not only as an extension of myself but my clients need to know that I don’t intend to stay in one place and get complacent. When someone buys my art I want it to become a part of your family and be an asset in your life.
Her paintings and sculptures are in museums, personal, private and corporate collections. Her art has been shown in local and national art magazines and newspapers. She is an award winner being bestowed “Best of Show” more than once.
All the accolades are nice, but I get my joy fulfilled when someone loves my art.
She now resides in Amarillo, TX with husband and houseful of pets. Where she enjoys painting in her home studio.
